Paul D. Williams is Associate Professor in the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University, USA.  


Dr. Williams is also a Non-Resident Senior Adviser at the International Peace Institute in New York where helps manage the “Providing for Peacekeeping Project.”

Between 2011-2014 he served as a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. He has also served as a visiting scholar at Georgetown University and the University of Queensland.

He is a member of the editorial board of several scholarly journals, including African Affairs, International Peacekeeping, Global Governance, and Global Responsibility to Protect.

He has consulted and written commissioned reports for a number of organizations including Amnesty International (USA); UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Africa Center for Strategic Studies, National Defense University, PAE Group, International Peace Institute, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Council on Foreign Relations, U.S. Joint Special Operations University, L3-STRATIS National Security Solutions, Rift Valley Institute (Nairobi), Tetra Tech ARD (for USAID), the U.S. State Department, Global Peace Operations Initiative, Royal Military College of Canada, and Oxford Analytica.  In the last few years he has conducted extensive field research on contemporary peace operations in a variety of countries including Djibouti, Cyprus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lebanon, Rwanda, Somalia, and Uganda.

He is currently working on a book-length study of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
